This web page provides an index to the Tax Duplicates that have been scanned
at the Hendricks County Government center.
In 1840 the State of Indiana passed a law requiring county offices to compare tax records. The reports
that compared the two records were called the Tax Duplicates. 1841 was the first year that the Duplicates were required.
Over the years, the responsibility for keeping tax records was given to the Tax Collectors, Treasurer, Assessor and Auditor.
Once duplicates were required, two offices created their own books and compared books at the end of the year.
The books below are from different offices from year to year, depending on what books we could find.
The left-hand column of links will open a viewer to allow you to go page by page through the book. The right-hand column of links
point to the Adobe PDF files containing the scans of the old books. The pdf files can be downloaded to your own computer if you desire, but
be warned that the pdf files are very large and may take quite a while to download.
